PRIVACY
Your comparisons stay on your device.
Obsidian Black Ltd operates MatchBench. The tool reads barcodes, compares values and creates downloads in your browser. There is no account, and nothing you scan or compare is uploaded.
What the browser keeps
Working comparisons are kept in memory while the tab is open. Closing or refreshing the tab loses anything you have not saved or downloaded. With Save on this device, the project is stored in this browser's site storage until you delete it or clear the site data. Anyone using the same browser profile can open it. Use Open saved work to open or delete a saved project; deleting it does not delete files you have downloaded. Import a backup checks the file first, then starts a new temporary project and never overwrites a saved one.
Preparing for offline use stores the tool's own files, including the camera decoder and the report font, not your comparisons. Remove offline copy deletes them. Barcode values never appear in page addresses, tab titles or file names: downloads use the fixed names matchbench-comparisons.csv, matchbench-comparisons.pdf and matchbench-project.json.
Camera and downloads
The camera starts only when you press the camera button, and your browser asks for your permission first. Images are decoded on your device, by the browser's own barcode reader or by a decoder loaded from this site, and are never stored or uploaded. The camera stops when you close the camera view or the page is hidden. Only the decoded value is kept, with its entry source and the time on this device.
CSV, PDF and backup files are created on your device and contain the exact values you compared. Review them before sharing. The PDF is yours to print or attach to your own email; MatchBench does not send or print anything for you.
Network requests and links
Loading the site retrieves its own pages, scripts, styles and fonts. The camera decoder and the PDF report files load from this site the first time you use them, unless you have prepared the tool for offline use. Hosting providers may record ordinary request details such as IP addresses and paths. Comparing, saving and downloads never send your values anywhere. Links to other SmartFACT products open only when you select them and carry no tracking marker. No barcode value is ever placed in a link.
Feedback and support
MatchBench has no built-in error reporting and sends nothing automatically. To suggest an improvement, use our feedback form; leaving your email address there is optional. For help, use the SmartFACT support form. Use synthetic examples where you can, and share production barcode values only if you need to.
Optional analytics
With your consent, we use Google Analytics to understand visits to our pages and the tool. The Google tag stays off until you accept. Rejecting analytics does not affect the tool.
Google receives page views, browser and device details, connection information and cookie identifiers. In the tool, the page view uses the fixed name MatchBench free tool and the address /app/, with no referrer. Our events use fixed names and values only. They never include barcode values, results, file contents, file names, query strings or fragments. On these pages, referrers are reduced to their origins. When you follow a link to another SmartFACT product or service, one event (suite_cta_click on these pages, suite_next_step in the tool) records only this tool's name, the destination product and a fixed name for where the link appeared. Advertising personalisation is disabled. Offline use and downloaded files never send analytics.
Your analytics choice is remembered for 180 days in a preference cookie shared across smartfact.ai and its subdomains, including product websites and apps. Use Analytics settings on these pages, or Change preference under Optional analytics in the tool, to accept or reject analytics across the suite. Google Analytics cookies remain specific to each host and last up to 180 days. Open pages check for changes; other sites remove their analytics cookies when next opened or resumed. Saving comparisons on this device and your analytics choice are separate controls.
Google processes analytics data under its own arrangements, which may involve processing outside the UK. Contact [email protected] about your information or to exercise your data rights. You can also raise a concern with the UK Information Commissioner at https://ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint/.
